Tummy Tuck
(Abdominoplasty)

Imagine... a flat, smooth stomach. Wearing a bikini and feeling great. Skinny jeans? Absolutely! A tummy tuck will make it all possible with dramatic contouring of the abdomen.

This is not a one size fits all procedure. This surgery requires extensive knowledge, experience, and a creative eye to produce natural yet considerable results for each body type. A tummy tuck is ideal for people who have had children, have lost a significant amount of weight or want to counter the effects of natural aging or heredity. It corrects sagging skin and a widened midsection due to separated or bulging abdominal muscles.

Why people have this procedure:

1

To feel comfortable and confident in their clothing, bathing suits, etc.

2

To repair what they feel is unsightly excess skin in their midsection.

3

Restore the curve and tautness of their stomach by repairing the separated abdominal muscles.

The Process

A comprehensive consultation will tailor this procedure to your unique needs and proportions. Your surgeon will perform an examination to determine surgical options, based on the amount of loose skin, excess fat and laxity of the stomach muscles.

  • An abdominoplasty is performed by making a horizontal incision along the lowest point of the abdomen, typically from hip to hip. Another is made around the navel. The shape and length of the incision are determined by the amount of skin to be removed.

  • The skin and fat are lifted to expose and repair the weakened abdominal muscles for a sleeker midsection.

  • The excess skin is then removed, the belly button reattached through a small incision in the new abdominal skin, and the incision is sutured or stapled closed.

  • You will go home in an abdominal binder which you should continue to wear as advised.

  • In most instances, your surgeon will place a temporary pain pump at the incision site, to deliver local anesthetic and relieve you of potential postoperative pain.

Recovery

After the procedure, you will be discharged into the care of a loved one or friend who should stay with you for the night.

  • Try to remain at home for the first week, to rest and recover.

  • You should be fine to drive and participate in light activities 7-10 days after the procedure. Your surgeon will advise you based on your individual case.

  • You should be feeling considerably better after 4 weeks. At 8 weeks you may return to aerobic workouts and more strenuous exercises.

  • Your final result is visible between 2 and 3 months.

  • The final appearance of your scar will take longer, and this varies from person to person.
